Bilkis Bano Case: 'How could the convicts be released?', SC asks Gujarat government | Oneindia News
The Gujarat government had some tough questions to field from the Supreme Court regarding the early release of the men convicted in the Bilkis Bano case.
The judges said that the Gujarat government is on ‘thin ice’ as far as the grant of premature remission release is concerned.
The SC bench constituted Justices BV Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan.
They pointed out that the convicts' death penalty was commuted to life imprisonment.
They asked how the convicts could be released after serving 14 years in such a situation.
They also wanted to know why other prisoners are not given the relief of release and why were these culprits selectively given the benefit of the policy in this case.
