The Supreme Court has requested responses from the Election Commission and the Central government regarding a petition advocating for a full count of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips during elections, challenging the current practice of random verification of only five Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
The petition underscores concerns about electoral transparency and suggests improvements to ensure accuracy in the voting process.
On April 28, the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to revise the content of its Lok Sabha campaign song to adhere to the Advertising Codes outlined in the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, and ECI guidelines. The AAP was requested to make necessary modifications to the song and resubmit it for certification. “The phrase “jail ke jawaab me hum vote denge” showing an aggressive mob holding the photo of Arvind Kejriwal showing him behind bars, casts aspersions on the Judiciary. Further, the said phrase appears several times in the advertisement which contravenes the provisions of ECI Guidelines and Rule 6(1(g) of Programme and Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994” (DISPLAY) said ECI.
