IAF goes full throttle to turn into an 'aerospace power'
Sunday, 10 December 2023 The Indian Air Force (IAF) is undergoing a transformation to become the Indian Air and Space Force (IASF) in order to enhance its capabilities in the aerospace domain. The IAF has formulated a new doctrine called Space Vision 2047 and is collaborating with organizations like Isro, DRDO, IN-SPACe, and the private industry to develop niche space-related technologies. The IAF is also working towards the establishment of a full-fledged Space Command and aims to have over 100 military satellites.
The Indian Air Force deployed its MI 17 V5 helicopter on Saturday (April 27) to combat the forest fires ravaging the Nainital district in Uttarakhand, as confirmed by the stateβs Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami. Utilising a "Bambi Bucket," the helicopter retrieved water from Bhimtal Lake, situated near Nainital, and discharged it onto the flames engulfing the forests.
