Andhra caste census to kick off today; 2nd state to go for it

Andhra Pradesh will hold a caste census, becoming the second state after Bihar. The census coincides with the unveiling of a 125-foot-tall statue of Dr B R Ambedkar. Village and ward secretariat staff will map 1.7 crore households using a mobile application to capture caste details. The census aims to determine the proportion of SCs, STs, and backward classes. Sources said the state government wants to know the exact proportion of SCs, STs and backward classes through census.
