Dozens of US states sue Meta Platforms for allegedly harming mental health of young people

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Instagram, is being sued by 33 US states over accusations that its social media platforms contribute to a youth mental health crisis. The lawsuit claims that Meta has misled the public about the dangers of its platforms and knowingly induced addictive social media use among young children and teenagers. The states are seeking civil penalties and other remedies. Meta has responded by stating that it has worked to make teens safe online.
