The Movie Year's Not Over Yet - Fantastic Films Yet To See In 2017by

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the year’s best output in terms of movies and TV is already far behind us – but you may be surprised to learn that some of the best offerings on the calendar are yet to spring to life. After all, we’re only a few months away from Oscar season again, and it’s during this time that some of the prime candidates for nomination in many of the categories spring forward in an attempt to gain critical attention. Others are simply a lot of fun – it goes without saying that many of the pictures yet to make a box office splash until the holiday season are set to be big players on the whole for 2017. Here’s just a few that we’re looking forward to in the weeks to come.

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

You can hardly be forgiven for ignoring this one – the hype is absolutely unreal with regard to Star Wars right now, and it’s sitting right at the apex of an incredible few years for Disney, who are set to break year-on-year takings yet again with the latest in the long-running saga due to reach us ahead of the holiday. Expected to capture the energy and brilliance that made The Force Awakens so watchable, The Last Jedi is set to explain an awful lot about Luke Skywalker’s absence, and exactly who our mysterious heroine, Rey, actually is.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Not all reboots and remakes are met with anticipation and preview praise, but Jumanji 2 – or, at least, a rethinking of Jumanji 1 – appears to be igniting interest beyond all reckoning. A solid comic cast in Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan promises to offer a refreshing take on the jungle game that could actually be worth a laugh or two.

The Disaster Artist
Based on Greg Sestero’s book of the same name, in which he recounts working with infamous director and auteur Tommy Wiseau on ‘The Room’ (regarded as the best ‘worst movie’ ever made) – the Franco brothers look set to recreate scenes from the original movie and show just how bizarre its production actually was.

Phantom Thread
Reportedly the last film ever for legendary method actor Daniel Day-Lewis – who famously has only a few select credits to his name, yet remains critically acclaimed throughout his career – Phantom Thread promises to delve into 1950s London fashion – and we’re excited to see exactly where the intense talents of Day-Lewis can take us next on his swansong.
