Venezuela's president wins third term, electoral authority says
Monday, 29 July 2024 Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has won a third term, the country's electoral authority has said - despite several exit polls which had pointed to an opposition win.
Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro won re-election with 51.2 percent of votes cast, the electoral council announced, after a campaign tainted by claims of opposition intimidation and fears of fraud.
Sweeping victory for Venezuela's ruling party in elections boycotted by opposition
The opposition urged voters to boycott last weekend's regional and parliamentary elections in protest against President Nicolas Maduro's disputed re-election last year.
