Venezuela's president wins third term, electoral authority says
Monday, 29 July 2024 Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has won a third term, the country's electoral authority has said - despite several exit polls which had pointed to an opposition win.
Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro won re-election with 51.2 percent of votes cast, the electoral council announced, after a campaign tainted by claims of opposition intimidation and fears of fraud.
In a fiery exchange at the White House, Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller slammed mainstream media outlets for ignoring a bombshell FBI assessment alleging that Venezuela's Maduro regime is plotting assassinations on American soil using the notorious Tren de Aragua gang. “You didn’t cover that!” Miller exclaimed, accusing journalists of burying a critical national security threat. His sharp rebuke has ignited debate over media priorities and growing concerns about foreign threats targeting the U.S. homeland.
