Gujarat local body election results: BJP reigns supreme, Congress slides as AAP rises
Tuesday, 2 March 2021 The counting for the Gujarat local body elections on Tuesday has thrown up almost the same results as those of the municipal corporation polls declared last week. While the BJP has held on to its dominant position, Congress has lost immense ground. On the other hand, the Delhi-ruling AAP has made entry into the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah.

Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis accused Maharastra Police of harassing a Daman-based Remdesivir supplier for agreeing to supply a stock of the drug to the state on the request of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. “We had requested Bruck Pharma to supply a stock of Remdesivir vials to Maharashtra. They said they couldn't until permissions were given. I spoke with Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and got Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s permission. Tonight around 9 pm, the police arrested him," said Fadnavis. He added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manjunath Singe told they had inputs that some exporters had 60,000 vials and they only wanted to verify the same. BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis, has alleged that Mumbai Police on April 17 arrested a remdesivir supplier whom BJP had approached to supply the anti-viral drug to the state amid the surge in COVID cases. Fadnavis said, "Four days ago we had requested Bruck Pharma to supply us (Remdesivir) but they couldn't until permission was given. I spoke with Union Min Mansukh Mandviya and we got FDA's permission, but at about 9 pm, police arrested him (supplier)." LoP visited the police station where the supplier was held. "DCP told us that they received inputs that some exporters had 60,000 vials and wanted to verify the same. We showed them permission letter. He (DCP) said it wasn't communicated to them. Whatever happened was wrong," said Devendra Fadnavis.
As COVID-19 cases spread across India like wildfire, several politicos on April 16 tested positive. Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Shiromani Akali Dal MP from Bathinda Harsimrat Kaur Badal, an independent MLA from Vadgam Assembly Constituency Jignesh Mevani have tested positive for COVID-19. The leaders urged people who were in their contact to get tested. Country reported highest ever spike of over 2.17 lakh COVID-19 cases on April 16.
Amid shortage of oxygen to treat COVID-19 patients in Madhya Pradesh, Reliance Industries Ltd sent oxygen from its refineries to the state on April 17. Tanker carrying 30 tonnes liquid Oxygen arrived from Gujarat's Jamnagar. Thanking Reliance for the gesture, MP Minister Tulsi Ram Silawat said, "We thank Reliance for providing us with liquid oxygen in the time of distress."

Aam Aadmi Party on April 05 criticised central government over media reports which state that India will be providing COVID-19 vaccine doses to Pakistan. The party asked if lives of Indian people less important than that of Pakistanis. "Reports say that Indian government has signed some agreements, under which India will give 45 million doses of vaccine to Pakistan. I want to ask the Prime Minister that, are the lives of our people less important than those of Pakistan?," said Raghav Chadha.

In the early trends Congress candidate Zuber is leading by 8323 votes in Chauhan Banger. Following which, Congress supporters were seen celebrating outside counting centre. AAP candidates are leading on the other 4 seats with good margin.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the positivity rate of Covid-19 tests in the national capital has increased to 30 per cent from 24 per cent in the last 24 hours. He also requested the Central government to reserve at least 7,000 hospital beds for Covid patients in the city. Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said, "Around 25,000 Covid-19 cases were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours. The major concern is the positivity rate that has increased to 30 per cent from 24 per cent in the last 24 hours. The cases are rising very fast. The beds are getting exhausted very quickly. UP Police ensured strict implementation of Sunday lockdown at Noida-Delhi border. Cops were seen checking passes of vehicles as they crossed Noida-Delhi border. Uttar Pradesh has announced a lockdown every Sunday across the state till May 15. Shops, markets, offices will remain closed from Saturday 8pm till Monday 7am.
