Reacting to the resignation of Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, the BJP said the NCP leader Sharad Pawar must have understood the implications of giving a clean chit to Deshmukh who tendered his resignation to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on April 05. "Sharad Pawar Ji is a senior political leader of the country. He ought to have understood the implications of giving a complete clean chit to Anil Deshmukh," said Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad while also pressing for a fair investigation. Anil Deshmukh is facing allegations of corruption levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
Soon after the Bombay HC directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry within 15 days into the corruption allegations against Anil Deshmukh. Soon after Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, state minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik informed that Anil Deshmukh no more wanted to remain in his post. "After the high court order, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh met Pawar Ji and party leaders and said he doesn't want to remain in the post because the inquiry will be there. He went to tender his resignation to the CM. Party has requested to the CM to accept his resignation," said Nawab Malik. Anil Deshmukh's resignation comes amid corruption allegations by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. In his resignation letter to Maharashtra CM, Home Minister said he doesn't find it morally correct to continue as the home minister after Bombay High Court's order.
Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis accused Maharastra Police of harassing a Daman-based Remdesivir supplier for agreeing to supply a stock of the drug to the state on the request of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. “We had requested Bruck Pharma to supply a stock of Remdesivir vials to Maharashtra. They said they couldn't until permissions were given. I spoke with Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and got Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s permission. Tonight around 9 pm, the police arrested him," said Fadnavis. He added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manjunath Singe told they had inputs that some exporters had 60,000 vials and they only wanted to verify the same. "ATS is investigating Antilia and Mansukh Hiren Case. We believe the culprit will be caught and punished," said Jayant Patil. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage across the country, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi asked Centre to lower the COVID vaccine age eligibility to 25 and above. "India has already exported nearly 6.5 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses to other countries. Considering the highest infection rate in the world in our own country, shouldn't vaccine export be held back and priority given to our citizens?
