Flash floods, landslides hit North Sikkim; 300 stranded

More than 2,100 tourists were evacuated from North Sikkim to Gangtok on Saturday after the road to Chungthang became inaccessible due to flash floods and multiple landslides following three days of incessant rain. Over 300 tourists are still stranded, at the time of going to press, with 238 taxis stuck in Lachen and Lachung. Mangan district administration has deployed around 23 buses and 208 small vehicles to evacuate the tourists. Among those who got stranded included 36 international tourists and 60 college students.
