Tuesday, 24 October 2023
Maratha activists in Satara, Sangli, and Solapur districts are banning the entry of political leaders into their villages as a protest against the lack of reservation benefits for the Maratha community. Activist Manoj Jarange has called for the boycott of politicians and future elections if their demands are not met. More than 20 villages have already erected boards at their entrances, stating that politicians are not welcome. The activists have presented their resolution to the gram panchayats and are awaiting a response from higher authorities. Jarange plans to restart his hunger strike from October 25 if their demands are not addressed.
