Government’s plan for rear seat alarm system put off for now

IndiaTimes Monday, 6 November 2023
The Indian government has postponed its plan to introduce an 'alarm' feature for rear seatbelts, focusing instead on making six airbags mandatory in cars. The proposal for the alarm system, aimed at encouraging rear-seat passengers to wear seatbelts, was also put on hold. Currently, the law only requires seatbelt reminders for drivers and front seat passengers, with little enforcement for rear seat passengers. Road safety advocates are concerned about the delay and urge the government to prioritize this safety measure to prevent road accidents.
