Azamgarh's 'dead man' fears for his life, seeks AK-47 licence

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 8 November 2023
Lal Bihari Mritak, who fought to prove he was alive after being declared dead in revenue records for 19 years, has requested a license for an AK-47 rifle, citing threats to his life. He plans to write to the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary to obtain the prohibited weapon, stating that it can be given to a "mritak" (dead person). Lal Bihari founded the Mritak Sangh to bring attention to the issue of people being declared dead on government records. A biopic titled 'Kaagaz' was made about his struggle.
