Woman raped, doused with liquor and set on fire

IndiaTimes Sunday, 10 December 2023
A woman has been raped and murdered in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh. The victim's identity remains unknown and the police are clueless about the crime. This incident follows the recent gangrape and murder of a 50-year-old woman in Guna. It is noteworthy that the NCRB report ranks Madhya Pradesh as the third-worst state in terms of rape cases. The woman in Gwalior was doused with liquor and set on fire, leaving severe burns on her face and chest. The police found a suicide note, dated November 7, 2023, which names several individuals and identifies the woman as 'Maya'. However, investigators suspect that the note was planted to mislead the investigation. The police are currently examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and have called in forensic experts, including fingerprint experts and the canine squad, to gather evidence. Initial findings suggest that the victim was sexually assaulted before being killed, and the incomplete burning of the body indicates the use of country liquor with a lower alcohol content. Distinct tyre marks have been discovered at the crime scene, and the police are cross-referencing missing person reports with the victim's description.
