Locals in Agartala celebrated Garia Puja on April 21.
Garia is one of the biggest festivals of Tripura and is celebrated with full devotion and fervour.
But due to fear of surging coronavirus cases, very less number of devotees turned out for the celebration unlike previous years.
Garia, is considered the creator of this universe and all the life forms of this world.
From the afternoon tribal people stood in a queue with eggs, a symbol of life, and sacrifice fouls to the Garia deity, which is made out of bamboo, and prayed for a better year and good yield.
The opening day of the 10-day festival is an official holiday in Tripura.
During a fierce storm and torrential rain, a section of the ceiling at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam, collapsed on Sunday, causing the diversion of six flights. Officials reported that airport operations returned to normal by Monday. The incident prompted a 45-minute suspension of activities at the airport, with six flights redirected to Agartala and Kolkata. Normal operations resumed, allowing the flights to return to Guwahati once more. A purported video of the incident has emerged on various social media platforms.

Polling in 102 parliamentary seats across 21 states and Union Territories in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections commenced at 7 am on April 19 and ended at 6 pm. Over 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and union territories headed to the polling booth on Friday, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout till 5 PM at 77.57 per cent, followed by Tripura at 76.10 per cent. Voter turnout in Assam stood at 70.77 per cent, while Manipur recorded a voter turnout of 68.58 per cent till 5 PM.
