Kuwait Building Fire: Three Arrests Made By Kuwaiti Authorities In The Tragic Fire Incident
Kuwaiti authorities have detained three individuals on suspicion of manslaughter following a devastating fire that killed dozens of Indian migrant workers and plunged their families and friends into mourning.
The blaze, which broke out around dawn on Wednesday in the Mangaf area, also claimed the lives of three Filipinos among the 50 dead, according to officials in Manila.
The six-storey building, heavily populated with migrant labourers, was engulfed in black smoke as the fire swept through the ground floor.
Most of Kuwait's population of over four million comprises foreigners, many from South and Southeast Asia working in construction and service industries.
Four major Arab nations â Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, and Jordan â have strongly condemned Israelâs military strikes on Iran, labeling them as violations of sovereignty and international law. Riyadh has called for urgent UN Security Council intervention, while the UAE urged maximum restraint. Kuwait and Jordan warned the strikes threaten Middle East stability. All four nations demand immediate global action to prevent the outbreak of a larger regional war, as fears of a wider Islamic world backlash begin to grow.

Japan is set to export six Abukuma-class destroyer escorts to the Philippines in a landmark move aimed at countering Chinaâs growing aggression in the South China Sea. The aging destroyers, in service for over 30 years, will significantly boost the Philippinesâ naval capabilities, which currently lack such firepower. Defense ministers from both nations agreed to the deal in Singapore last month. Tokyo will frame the upgrades as a joint development project to bypass Japanâs pacifist export rules. The Philippines will inspect the ships this summer. This strategic partnership comes amid intensifying maritime tensions, as both Tokyo and Manila face growing challenges from Beijingâs territorial claims. The deal marks a new chapter in Asia-Pacific military realignment and is expected to draw a sharp response from China.

The sharp rebuke followed EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas' visit to Manila, where she voiced concern over China's assertive actions. Beijing insisted the EU has no legal or diplomatic role in the matter, cautioning Manila not to rely on outside powers for resolution. The statement underscores China's hardened stance as geopolitical fault lines deepen in the contested maritime zone.

In a high-stakes meeting amid growing trade hostilities, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Kuala Lumpur during the East Asia Summit. This marked Rubio's first Asia visit since taking office, aiming to reaffirm U.S. presence in the Indo-Pacific. However, Trump's sudden tariff offensiveâslapping 25-40% duties on major Asian economiesâhas intensified regional friction. China condemned the U.S. move as "bullying behavior," warning nations against cutting Beijing from global supply chains.
Rubio also discussed security and tech cooperation with Japanese, South Korean, and Southeast Asian leaders. While Rubio remained tight-lipped during the talks, Wang launched a blistering critique of U.S. policies. Meanwhile, ASEAN ministers voiced alarm over trade disruptions, signaling a tilt toward diversification. With deadlines looming and diplomacy on edge, the clash of giants over Asiaâs future has just begun.

In a pivotal diplomatic meeting, ASEAN leaders urged "wisdom and prudence" in managing rising geopolitical tensionsâparticularly with China.
Amid nuclear concerns and trade ambitions, China has hinted it may become the first nuclear power to sign ASEANâs Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone protocol. Meanwhile, ASEAN and China prepare to seal the ASEAN-China FTA 3.0 deal, bolstering economic resilience across Southeast Asia.
With diplomacy at the forefront and regional security on the line, the world watches closely as the South China Sea emerges once again as a flashpoint of global stakes.

India has crossed 7,000 active COVID-19 cases, with Kerala reporting the highest spike and three new deaths. The XFG variant, a sub-lineage of Omicron with strong immune evasion, has been detected across the country, raising global alarm. Originating in Canada, the variant carries four spike protein mutations. Globally, SARS-CoV-2 activity is rising, especially in South-East Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions, with test positivity rates matching last yearâs peak. WHO continues to monitor the spread amid poor ICU and hospitalization data from heavily affected regions.

A limestone quarry in Indonesiaâs West Java province collapsed on Friday, killing at least 13 people and injuring a dozen others. Authorities fear more may still be buried under the rubble. The rescue mission, involving excavators and volunteers, was halted due to unstable soil and will resume Saturday. Governor Dedi Mulyadi ordered the permanent closure of this and four similar unsafe mining sites. This is the quarryâs second collapse this year, highlighting growing concerns over mining safety in the Southeast Asian archipelago.
