California hit by heavy rainfall, flash floods and mudslides
Friday, 14 February 2025 Just over a month after thousands fled their homes as California saw the most destructive wildfires in its history, communities across the south of the state have now been hit by flash flooding and mudslides.
The rapidly growing Wolf Fire in Southern California has scorched over 1,165 acres, triggering evacuations in Riverside County. First reported Sunday near Wolfskill Truck Trail and Old Banning Idyllwild Road, the fire is affecting Highway 243 and threatening the mountain town of Idyllwild. Evacuation zones span north of Poppet Flat Divide and surrounding areas. The cause remains unknown. The Wolf Fire is one of five active blazes in the Inland Empire, amid hot, dry, and windy conditions fueling red flag warnings.
