Ravidas Jayanti: Mayawati slams Congress, BJP leaders for visiting temples for vested interests
Sunday, 9 February 2020 "Congress, BJP and other parties did not give any respect or honour to Sant Guru Ravidas during their tenure. But, after being out of power, they are indulging in various theatrics to realise their vested interests by visiting temples and other places," Mayawati said in a tweet in Hindi.
Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, took on those seeking introspection following the party's subpar performance in the Bihar Assembly election. He said that leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad and Kapil Sibal used to tell their junior colleagues to only raise party issues on internal fora, but were doing the opposite themselves. Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel laid to rest in Gujarat's Bharuch on November 26. Former party present Rahul Gandhi, former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath along with other leaders was present at Burial Ground. Patel breathed his last after multi-organ failure in the wee hours of Nov 25. He was undergoing treatment at a Gurugram hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. He was 71-year-old.
Bahujan Samaj Party chief reiterated her threat to ensure the defeat of Samajwadi Party candidates in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections. Mayawati said that her party would vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party or other candidates who give a tough fight to SP candidates. The statement came days after Mayawati suspended 7 legislators of her party. The MLAs had opposed the nomination of Ramji Gautam for Rajya Sabha elections. 4 rebels had also met SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, sparking rumours of possible defection. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on November 02 said her party if needed, will support Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or any other party to defeat Samajwadi Party (SP) in MLC elections in UP. "If needed, BSP will support BJP or any other party to defeat Samajwadi Party (SP) in the upcoming MLC elections in the state. We have taken this decision to show our firm stand against SP's anti-Dalit actions," said Mayawati in media brief.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), chief Mayawati missed founder of the party and her mentor Kanshi Ram. Kanshi Ram was a dalit icon and ardent follower of Babasaheb Ambedkar. While addressing the media, she said, "Kanshi Ram empowered Dr. Ambedkar's approach based on his slogan 'Political power is the master key'."
Ahead Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, Bharatiya Janata Party president Jagat Prakash Nadda held a massive roadshow from Nagole Chowrasta to Kothapet Chowrasta in Hyderabad on November 27. He was accompanied by Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy. However, COVID-19 norms were floated during the roadshow. Voting for GHMC elections will be held on December 01.
Dilip Ghosh, president of BJP's West Bengal unit, trained his guns on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the poll campaign picks up pace. Ghosh said Banerjee gets terrified whenever senior BJP leaders like PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah visit the state. He was reacting to the Trinamool Congress chief calling BJP leaders 'outsiders' following Shah's recent trip. Ghosh also repeated his charge that the TMC is turning Bengal into Bangladesh. A day earlier, Union minister Rajnath Singh said that the BJP may even end up winning a 2/3rd majority in the state. He was speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit.
