President gives assent to Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill
Sunday, 27 September 2020 A new law that provides for inclusion of Kashmiri, Dogri and Hindi in the list of official languages in Jammu and Kashmir, in addition to Urdu and English, has been notified after President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent. The Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Act, 2020, received assent of the President on September 26, according to a gazette notification.

On the occasion of India's Constitution Day, soldiers deployed in Siachen and Kargil recited the preamble to the Constitution. They 'reaffirmed their commitment' to the Constitution, the Defence MInistry said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed the nation and stressed on the importance of performance of duties in order to safeguard rights. Giving a mantra of KYC, or 'Know Your Constitution', he said that people need to gain a 'comprehensive understanding' of the document. President Ram Nath Kovind led the nation in reading the Preamble to the Constitution of India on the occasion of Constitution Day, which is celebrated on November 26. The event was organised via video conferencing. On this day, in 1949, the Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly.
While addressing at the 80th All India Presiding Officers' Conference in Gujarat's Kevadia on November 25, President Ram Nath Kovind said, "I am glad that the Indian government since 2015, has taken the decision to celebrate Constitution Day on every 26th of November." "Today, when democratic institutions are being questioned around the world, the Indian institutions are gaining more strength. Our ancient books have mentions of democratic values. Our founding fathers gave a final form to these sentiments in the Constitution," he added.
To refresh the mood amid COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of India (GoI) organised cultural event 'Jashan-i-Chilay Kalan' in Srinagar. It was organised by North Zone Cultural Center, Patiala and Ministry of Culture, GoI. The artists from across Kashmir participated in the event. They performed various Kashmiri folk feats and entertained the audience. Event aimed at promoting artists in the valley who are coping up with pandemic. Audience enjoyed and appreciated the efforts of artists in cultural programme.
Two security force personnel were killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Police said the attack took place on a quick reaction team (QRT) on the outskirts of Srinagar. Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Police said that QRT came under indiscriminate firing by 3 ultras, who were travelling in a van. The injured jawans were rushed to a military facility in Sharifabad camp where they succumbed.
