Addressing a public gathering in poll-bound Tamil Nadu, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami is being "fully controlled" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that the state needs an "independent" Chief Minister. "The coming election is about the future of Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister because of corruption is fully controlled by the Prime Minister. Tamil Nadu needs an independent CM," said Rahul Gandhi in Kuzhithurai.

Rahul performs push-ups with students in Kanyakumari

Ahead of state assembly polls, Rahul Gandhi is aggressively campaigning in Tamil Nadu. During his visit in Kanyakumari on March 01, he interacted with students of St. Joseph's Matriculation higher secondary school in Kanyakumari's Mulagumoodu. Rahul Gandhi addressed their questions and also seen shaking a leg with them on the stage. Rahul also flexed his physical powers during the event.

'Cow Pongal' celebrated with zest and zeal in Coimbatore

'Cow Pongal' was celebrated with traditional dance and music in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore with full fervour. It attracted the tourists and local visitors in large numbers. 'Cow Pongal' was celebrated at Isha Yoga Centre where thousands of people gathered for the massive celebration. Pongal is a popular harvest festival in Tamil Nadu. It marks the beginning of 'Uttarayana'-the northward journey of the sun. It signals the end of the harvest season and offers a special thanksgiving to the sun, earth and cattle.

Several people witnessed Jallikattu event in Madurai on January 16. Hundreds of bull tamers participated in the event. Participants showed their skills with their attempts to tame the bulls. Jallikattu is a bull-taming sport that has traditionally been part of Pongal festival. The festival is a celebration of nature, and thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest, of which cattle-worship is a part.

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University celebrates Pongal with cultural events

The traditional festival of Pongal is being celebrated across the state of Tamil Nadu. Pongal was celebrated with full fervour at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) on January 14. People participated in large numbers in the celebration. Around 11 new varieties of crops were also introduced as a gift to farmers on this auspicious occasion. Traditional sport of tug of war was also organised with fun and joy.
