UP leads in total vaccine doses, Karnataka in most 2nd shots given
Saturday, 20 February 2021 () India had administered over 1.08 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines till Saturday evening, with Karnataka inoculating the maximum number of healthcare workers with the second dose so far. Karnataka had fully vaccinated (with two doses) over 1.11 lakh health workers against Covid-19, followed by Telangana and Uttar Pradesh at 86,648 and 85,752, respectively.

Health Ministry Joint Secretary Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari informed that the five highest vaccinating states today are Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Bhandari said that total 51 persons have been hospitalised till date out of which 27 have been discharged, one person is under treatment and 23 people died so far.

Director of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, Prof Jagat Ram said the new Covid-19 strains detected in the country are highly transmissible. "New Covid-19 strains detected in India are highly transmissible. We should take all possible precautions to prevent the rise in cases,” he said. The Centre on February 23 said two new Covid strains were found in Maharashtra, Kerala and Telangana.
