Eight states account for over 80% of new Covid-19 cases
Sunday, 4 April 2021 () India's total active caseload has reached 6,91,597 and now comprises 5.54 per cent of the country's total infections. A net rise of 32,688 cases recorded in the total active caseload in a span of 24 hours. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Punjab cumulatively account for 76.41 per cent of the total active cases in the country, the health ministry said.

On the other side, Karnataka today registered 17,489 new positive cases, 5,565 discharges and 80 deaths. Kerala also reported 13,835 new cases, 3654 recoveries and 27 deaths today. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh reported 11,269 new coronavirus cases, 6,497 recoveries, and 66 deaths in last 24 hours.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan demanded legal action against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Viijayan, and used word 'Covidiot' for him. V Muraleedharan said, "'Covidiot' you know what it means. There's no other word that can be used for a CM who continuously violates COVID protocol. As per doctors of Calicut Medical College, Kerala CM tested positive on April 4 and on April 6 voted without following protocols that a primary contact person have to follow even if we consider it was not known to him as COVID positive."
At least 5 persons were killed after fire broke out in Rajdhani hospital in Chhattisgarh's Raipur on April 17. Rest of the patients have been shifted to other hospitals. A detailed investigation will be done into the incident, informed police official. Further details are awaited.
CRPF jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas reached his hometown, Jammu on Friday. Rakeshwar was released last week after being abducted by Naxals in Chhattisgarh. The jawan was warmly welcomed by family, friends who put garlands around his neck. “I am very happy that I am meeting my family today. Our soldiers were brave enough to fight back the Naxals,” Rakeshwar said. Rakeshwar was abducted by Naxals during the Sukma-Bijapur encounter on April 3. Rakeshwar, who was part of security force's elite CoBRA unit, was released on April 8. 22 security personnel were killed and 31 others were injured in the fierce gunbattle.

Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, the CoBRA jawan who was abducted by Naxals following the April 03 encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur and released later on April 08, finally met his family in Jammu on April 17. Manhas got a rousing welcome upon his arrival at Jammu airport where his family and friends were waiting for him. He expressed his happiness after meeting his family. During his abduction, Manhas's family repeatedly urged the government to ensure his safe release from the hands of Naxals. He was finally released on April 08 during a jansabha of Naxals in Bijapur. The deadly encounter in Bijapur on April 03 claimed the lives of 22 security personnel while injuring more than 30 jawans.
Former Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy admitted to Apollo Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru on April 17. He had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier today. He appealed to people in his close contact to get themselves tested for the virus.

Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis accused Maharastra Police of harassing a Daman-based Remdesivir supplier for agreeing to supply a stock of the drug to the state on the request of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. “We had requested Bruck Pharma to supply a stock of Remdesivir vials to Maharashtra. They said they couldn't until permissions were given. I spoke with Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and got Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s permission. Tonight around 9 pm, the police arrested him," said Fadnavis. He added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manjunath Singe told they had inputs that some exporters had 60,000 vials and they only wanted to verify the same.
