Did not breach poll code by remarks on Swaraj, Jaitley: Udhayanidhi
Wednesday, 7 April 2021 () DMK youth wing leader Udhayanidhi Stalin on Wednesday denied he had breached the Model Code of Conduct during the poll campaign for the just concluded Tamil Nadu assembly elections by making some remarks about late BJP leaders Sushma Sawaraj and Arun Jaitley.
Ahead of upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended a public meeting at Tirunelveli on April 3 and said that people have to decide whether they want to go with those who think about the state or those who want to make their son as CM. "PM Modi thinks about farmers, unemployed youth and fishermen of Tamil Nadu. Stalin thinks about making his son Udhayanidhi Stalin, CM. People of Tamil Nadu have to decide if they want to go with those who think about the state or those who make their son, CM," said Shah. "Tamil Nadu Elections 2021 is a very important poll for the future of the state. These elections will decide if Tamil Nadu will walk on the path of dynasty or on the path of Makkal Thilagam MG Ramachandran," Home Minister added.
BJP delegation on April 02 met Election Commissioner amid ongoing assembly polls. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee violated ECI rules and demanded action against her. "We've also demanded action against Udhayanidhi Stalin for this remarks against late leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley," he added. The third round of assembly polls in West Bengal on April 06 along with Tamil Nadu.
On being asked about Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan's comment that both AIADMK and DMK are not support-worthy, DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin said, "I don't want to comment on Kamal Haasan. We don't take him seriously." Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on April 06 this year.
While addressing a public conference in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas on April 13, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took a jibe at state CM Mamata Banerjee for protesting against EC's decision for banning her from election campaigning over violation of Model Code of Conduct. He said, "You talk nonsense about our Prime Minister. Why do you blame him for everything? I have also been a Chief Minister, I know how a CM should behave...Election Commission has banned her for 24 hours citing Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation. She's now against the EC. Didi, can you spare anyone?"
