Have China and India shifted stance on Russia war?
Thursday, 17 November 2022 India and China, after months of refusing to condemn Russia’s war in Ukraine, did not stand in the way of the release this week of a statement by the world’s leading economies that strongly criticizes Moscow. Could this, at last, signal a bold new policy change by Beijing and New Delhi to align themselves with what the United States and its allies believe is the best way to end a war that has brought death and misery to Ukraine and disrupted millions of lives as food and energy prices soar and economies crack?
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says there was “international condemnation” of Russia’s war in Ukraine among G20 members at the G7 summit today. He goes on to describe the war as “barbaric” and says that as a G20 member we have a “responsibility to safeguard and preserve the international...

Earth’s Inner Core , May Be Reversing Its Rotation, Study Suggests.
According to a study published
Jan. 23 in 'Nature Geoscience,' .
our planet's inner core may be reversing
after it temporarily stopped rotating.
Researchers think it could be part of a 70-year cycle,
with the inner core changing direction every 35 years,
that may affect Earth's magnetic field and the length of days.
After examining data, researchers
think the inner core may have made
another rotation reversal in the 1970s.
We see strong evidence that the inner core has been rotating faster than the surface, [but] by around 2009 it nearly stopped. Now it is gradually mov[ing] in the opposite direction, Xiaodong Song, geophysicist, Peking University in Beijing,
via 'Science News'.
However, 'Science News' reports that other researchers think the inner core may change its rotation every three years.
Others propose that the inner core
doesn't move at all.
Overall, researchers say more studies
are needed to figure out what's
going on with Earth's inner core.
In all likelihood, it’s irrelevant to life on the surface, but we don’t actually know what’s happening. It’s incumbent
on us to figure it out, John Vidale, geophysicist, the University of
Southern California in Los Angeles, via 'Science News'

This Day in History:, Gandhi Is Assassinated.
January 30, 1948.
The political and spiritual leader
of the Indian independence
movement was assassinated
in New Delhi by a Hindu fanatic.
Known as Mahatma, or “the great soul,”
Gandhi’s methods of civil disobedience influenced
leaders of civil rights movements around the world.
He organized his first campaign of satyagraha,
or mass civil disobedience, in 1906 while
working as a lawyer in South Africa.
Five years after returning to India,
Gandhi launched a new satyagraha in 1919 in
protest of Britain’s mandatory military draft of Indians.
For the next two decades, he led fasts, marches,
worked for India's poor and was often imprisoned.
In 1942, Gandhi launched
the “Quit India” movement,
which called for a total
British withdrawal from India.
On August 15, 1947, Britain
agreed to create the two new independent
states of India and Pakistan.
When he was killed, Gandhi was on
a vigil to heal the religious strife between
Hindus and Muslims in his country
