Marathas chief beneficiary of EWS quota in Maharashtra

IndiaTimes Saturday, 28 October 2023
Data reveals that the Maratha community has been the largest beneficiary of the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota in Maharashtra. In 2022, 78.6% of admissions through the EWS quota were from the Maratha community, while only 21.4% were from other communities. Similarly, 84.3% of government jobs filled through the EWS quota went to candidates from the Maratha community. Despite this, Maratha leaders argue that the EWS quota puts them in competition with other minority communities and are demanding a separate quota.
