According to JP Nautiyal, chairperson of the para shooting sports technical committee of the Paralympic Committee of India, Lt Col Dwarakesh and another civilian woman are the only two blind para shooters in the country. They have imported special equipment from Switzerland to support their shooting endeavors. "I have lost my eyesight, not my vision for life. I have found a new identity in sports," Dwarakesh had said after winning the gold in November 2023.
