Drop in Maoist casualties as security forces intensify operations in Chhattisgarh
Friday, 22 November 2024 257 Maoists were killed in encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh this year. 861 Naxalites were arrested and 789 surrendered. Counter-Naxal forces are setting up camps in former Maoist strongholds. The government aims to eliminate Left-wing extremism by March 2026.
An encounter between security forces and Maoists in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, resulted in the death of 10 Maoist militants. The forces recovered weapons, including AK-47s and SLRs, after a violent exchange of fire. The operation was part of ongoing anti-Naxalite efforts in the region.

Chhattisgarh Naxal Encounter: In a major anti-Naxal operation, security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division neutralized 22 Maoists in two separate encounters. The first gunfight took place in the dense forests along the Bijapur-Dantewada border, where 18 Maoists were killed. Another encounter in Kanker district led to the elimination of four more insurgents. A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was injured in the operation. Weapons and explosives were recovered from the sites. Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the success, reaffirming the government's commitment to a ‘Naxal-Mukt Bharat’ (Naxal-free India).
