Time for a law to compensate persons acquitted after long incarceration: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court acquitted a man previously sentenced to death for a 2011 double murder in Kerala, citing a flawed investigation and lack of evidence. The court highlighted the unprofessional handling of the DNA tests and suggested Parliament consider compensating those wrongly incarcerated, drawing inspiration from foreign jurisdictions. Guidelines were issued to improve police handling of forensic evidence.
