Samsung’s just announced a ton of new products: the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is the company’s latest flagship and SmartTags are a Tile and (maybe) AppleAirTags competitor. But the real innovation, the thing that Samsung spent almost three minutes waxing poetically about during its 2021 Unpacked presentation, was the color black.
Specifically, “phantom black,” the company’s “new” version of black for the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G. A black that Samsung describes as “strong, fluid, and modern,” and also “unapologetic,” “resonant,” and “unforgettable,” despite looking more or less like the black phones Samsung’s rolled out almost every year. Call it Samsung entering its Adult Goth phase or maybe just a way to pad out a presentation that was light on...

American multinational technology company Apple's first virtual reality headset will reportedly sport powerful processors, a high-resolution display, and a fan, along with a steep price tag. According to The Verge, Apple's VR headset will be considered a niche product which may launch in 2022, as a standalone device that operates through batteries, similar to the Oculus Quest 2. The company is reportedly working on "some of its most advanced and powerful chips" for this unannounced VR headset, with some chips reportedly beating its own M1 Mac processors. The new VR headset codenamed 'N301' will be "far more expensive" than the other headsets available from Apple's rivals. Some prototypes being tested include external cameras to enable some AR features. Apple is also reportedly testing the ability to use these cameras to track hand movements, and include software features like a virtual keyboard. As per The Verge, Apple has reportedly faced quite a few challenges in the development of this new VR headset. With some prototypes ending up too big and heavy, Apple will reportedly be using a fabric exterior to reduce the headset weight. The company will also be using a fan, which is an unusual move from Apple given its emphasis on fan-less designs. Apple has been working on VR and AR headsets for years, according to various reports. A detailed look of Apple's VR and AR ambitions were published last year, noting that the company has around 1,000 people working on its AR and VR projects.
Tech giant, Apple might finally be getting rid of Touch Bar from its next rendition of the MacBook Pro. According to Mashable, Apple is planning to replace the Touch Bar featured on its current crop of MacBooks and, instead, revert back to physical keys (among other things) for the new MacBook line. Touch Bar is one of the features Apple first introduced back in 2016 for the MacBook Pro. As per Mashable, it's super unintuitive, because adjusting things like volume and brightness requires extra taps, and it's not even optimized for all apps. It also bothered some users to go through the process of tinkering with MacBook's settings and customizing the Touch Bar. The Touch Bar also often leads to a series of constant accidental triggers of Apple's virtual assistant, Siri. As soon as this news broke out, several people on Twitter handles expressed disdain for the purported end of this feature of MacBook Pro.
