Derek Michael Chauvin is an American former police officer charged with second-degree murder for his involvement in the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020, during which he knelt on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, leading to Floyd's death. Chauvin was fired by the Minneapolis Police Department the day after the incident.
