President Trump to Launch Artificial Intelligence Initiative

The Trump administration is getting ready to launch a plan it hopes will further develop artificial intelligence in the United States.

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order Monday to create the so-called American AI Initiative.

Anonymous officials  told reporters  the plan is meant to beef up American leadership in the artificial intelligence realm.

According to CNN , the initiative features a "multi-pronged approach" that's split into five key areas: research and development, AI infrastructure, AI governance, workforce and international engagement.

A senior administration official told the outlet that AI is a major part of people's lives, like health care, food production and energy.

They said the plan outlines "bold, decisive actions to ensure that AI continues to be fueled by American ingenuity, reflects American values and is applied for the benefit of the American people." Experts have been calling on the Trump administration to make artificial intelligence a priority for a while now.   President Trump mentioned technology in last week's State of the Union speech, saying the U.S. needs to make "investments in the cutting edge industries of the future." But it's unclear exactly how officials plan to achieve the goals laid out in the initiative or where the funding for it will come from.
