Home delivery of liquor: Bengal govt begins service to reduce crowds at shops

The West Bengal government has reportedly decided to start home delivery of liquor to prevent large crowds at alcohol shops.

To this effect, the state beverages corporation has started taking liquor orders online, albeit from people aged 21 and above.

Many places have witnessed a mad rush at liquor shops since they were allowed to open in phase 3 of the nationwide lockdown.

In some places like Delhi, police have even had to resort to lathicharge to control the crowds.

However, states may not be able to stop liquor sales as they are a source of revenue, and especially important at a time when the ongoing pandemic is causing an economic slowdown.
