Officials react to gaming license coming to Vigo County

The Indiana Gaming Commission awarded a gaming license to Vigo County.

Something local leaders have been working on getting for quite some time.

Through this whole process" that roller coaster is coming to an end!

A casino is officially coming to terre haute.

The indiana gaming commission held a vote today to officially allow a hard rock branded casino in the county.

Earlier tonight..

News 10's sarah lehman visited the future site of the casino.

She has more on what this vote means for "you".

After years of working to get a gaming license in vigo county -- it has finally happened!

This area here by walmart right off interstate 70 sits empty right now.

But in about a year and a half it could be filled with vigo county's first casino!

"it's been a long road and i'm very excited about it" after years and many road blocks of trying to get a gaming license to come to vigo county.

"it's a great day for our community" finally... na} "the vote was unanimous and affirmative *rap gavel* congratualtions everyone" in the first ever virtual meeting of the indiana gaming commission... nat} a gaming license was unanimously awarded to spectacle jack llc.

"i'm certainly excited!

As i think terre haute and vigo county should be.

This is a huge thing for the community."

It's huge... like bringing about 1000 permanent jobs... more than 13 hundred construction jobs... 120 million dollars in investment... and about 3.3 million dollars in annual gaming tax revenue for the local community.

Terre haute mayor duke bennett says it will benefit everyone!

"whether you go to the casino or you don't go to the casino we're going to have some funds now to invest in non for profits and quality of life projects a varity of things we can all benefit from.

Positive economic development hit for our communiity that's going to last for many many many years."

Up until now -- some plans for the casino gibson says they need to immediately start working on a finance package.

He says they hope to have a ground breaking as early as this septmber.
