Thousands of women protest Barrett nomination

[NFA] Thousands marched, chanted and held up posters against President Trump and his Supreme Court pick, Amy Coney Barrett, at a Women's March in Washington, D.C.

On Saturday.

Fred Katayama reports.

Thousands of women marched and chanted in the streets of Washington Saturday to protest against President Donald Trump and his pick for the Supreme Court, Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

The protest organized by the Women’s March organization took place just days before the Senate is set to vote on the confirmation of Barrett to replace the late liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Trump has asked the Senate to confirm Barrett before the November 3rd election.

Britney Fisher and Emily Minster attended the rally.

“She just can't get confirmed.

We are really big RBG fans.

And it was a really big hit when she passed away.” “Yeah, we're out here for as long as possible, quite frankly, because we're pissed off.

So I'm trying to do something about it.” Barrett’s confirmation would give the court a 6-3 conservative majority.

Since Trump’s fellow Republicans have majority control of the Senate, Barrett’s confirmation is a virtual certainty.

US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said that he is looking forward to the India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue. “I am looking forward to our 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue with our Indian friends. It was postponed because of the virus. I'm glad that we will be able to execute that in person in just a few days," said Pompeo during a press briefing. He added, "I'm also sure that my meetings will also include discussions on how free nations can work together to thwart the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party.” The Trump administration also hit Chinese media outlets in the US with new restrictions. “They are all substantially owned or controlled by a foreign government. We’re not placing any restrictions on what these outlets can publish in the United States. We simply want to ensure that American people, consumers of information, can differentiate between news written by a free press and propaganda distributed by the Chinese Communist Party itself. They are not the same thing,” he said.

During the US Vice Presidential debate, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris directly said that if there is a coronavirus vaccine available during Donald Trump's administration that is not embraced by scientific advisers but pushed by the President, she will not take it. Harris said, "If Dr. Fauci, if the doctors tell us that we should take it, I'll be the first in line to take it, absolutely. But if Donald Trump tells us to take it, I'm not taking it." On his response, US VP Mike Pence asked Kamala Harris to not stop playing politics with lives. He said, "We have vaccine. You are undermining confidence in an eventual coronavirus vaccine by saying you wouldn't take it unless it was endorsed by public health experts. Stop playing politics with people's lives." Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic Vice President nominee Kamala Harris came face-to-face for debate in Washington DC ahead of US elections 2020.
