Cyclone Nivar: 22 teams available on ground, 8 teams on standby, informs NDRF DG
Ahead of 'Cyclone Nivar', a total of 22 teams are available on the ground and 8 teams are on the standby, informed SN Pradhan, Director General, National Disaster Response Force while addressing a press conference in Delhi on November 24.
He said, "12 teams positioned in Tamil Nadu, 2 teams in Puducherry and 1 team in Karaikal.
3 teams positioned in Nellore and 1 team in Chittoor.
NDRF personnel rappelled his way down the mountain to install a gauge in the Dhauliganga River in Chamoli. "Water level of the river is likely to rise. We are installing a gauge to measure its depth and water level," said Aditya P Singh, Deputy Commandant, NDRF.
Updating on the rescue and search operation on Uttarakhand's glacier burst incident, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Deputy Commandant, Aditya Pratap Singh informed that one more body was recovered from Tapovan tunnel area and further search op continues. "One body has been retrieved around 4:30 am today from the Tapovan tunnel area. Digging is underway inside the tunnel. We're dewatering via pumps whenever waterlogging is occurring. Search and rescue operation continues," said Aditya Pratap Singh.
The search, relief and rescue operation is still underway at Tapovan tunnel in Joshimath of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on February 17. Several bodies are yet to be found. The region was hit by a flash flood on February 07 after a glacier burst. Speaking to ANI, the Deputy Commandant of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Aditya Pratap Singh said, "A large numbers of stray dogs were found roaming near Gaurikund Village which is a natural indication that the bodies have started decomposing over there." "We will now work on nature indications as well. There is possibility that we can find some bodies there too. We are sending a search team to check the situation, he added.
An Uzbekistan Army contingent arrived in New Delhi on March 08. The contingent reached India for Indo-Uzbek Joint Exercise Dustlik-ll. Rescue operation underway in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli after glacier burst led to flash flood. ITBP jawans, NDRF teams, SDRF, and local Police have been deployed at several areas in flood affected areas. Over 200 people are feared missing following the glacier burst. ITBP and other teams rescued people from one tunnel and currently working on another one. NDRF DG SN Pradhan said the focus is on the bigger tunnel where rescue operation is underway. Earlier, Swati S Bhadauria, District Magistrate of Chamoli informed that 13 villages near the Reini Bridge have been affected. She also said there were no casualty reported but several people are stranded there. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal was also present at Chamoli to review the situation. Giving updates on Chamoli disaster, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General SN Pradhan on February 08 informed that the rescue operation underway in 2.5 km long tunnel, 27 people alive,11 dead,153 missing. Out of 153, 40-50 are stuck in tunnel, he added. He said, "Rescue operation underway in 2.5 km long tunnel. Problem lies with debris which's gradually being cleared. 27 people alive,11 dead,153 missing. Out of 153, 40-50 are stuck in tunnel. There's a possibility of remaining people being washed away in Uttarakhand." In Uttarakhand's Chamoli a flash flood triggered due to glacier burst on Feb 07.
NDRF Director-General SN Pradhan on massive flood in Chamoli district informed that SDRF team members are on the spot, meanwhile NDRF teams are heading to Joshimath. He also said 3-4 rescue teams from Delhi will be airlifted to Dehradun onwards to Joshimath. "The glacier breach has impacted the Rishiganga River and flooding has taken out one bridge being constructed by BRO. The upper reaches of the Rishiganga project also has been damaged. Chamoli, Joshimath and other downstream reaches will be affected," said SN Pradhan. He added, "Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are already deployed in Joshimath. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already moved from Dehradun to Joshimath. We are organising airlift for 3-4 more teams from Delhi to Dehradun onwards to Joshimath."

Police seized counterfeit currency notes with face value of Rs 7.9 crore in Sunki Village of Odisha's Koraput district. Cops arrested three persons in this connection. All the notes were of the Rs 500 denomination. The three accused were carrying the counterfeit currency notes in a car. A team of the police intercepted the vehicle and found the fake notes while search. The vehicle was heading towards Visakhapatnam from Raipur. The three accused are residents of Chhattisgarh.
Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh assumed office of Command of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) at Eastern Naval Command headquarters in Visakhapatnam.
