Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on January 05 said that in view of new COVID-19 strain, the number of flights to UK from India have been reduced to 50 per cent. "We took a decision on limited resumption of civil aviation traffic between India and United Kingdom based on an assessment of the available facts. We decided that RTPCR test which was done 72 hours ahead of travelling was not enough. So, we made it compulsory to test again on arrival. We will review the situation if any steps have to be taken. The total number of flights to UK reduced from 60 a week to 30, which is 50 per cent," said Hardeep Singh Puri.
In view of new strain of coronavirus in United Kingdom, Karnataka Health Minister, Dr K Sudhakar requested people to undergo RT-PCR test. "We request people who have returned from abroad in the last 14 days especially from the countries including United Kingdom, Netherlands and Denmark to undergo RT-PCR test, in view of the new strain of coronavirus. We have understood that this virus can spread quickly and this property is highly contagious. We need to take utmost precautionary measures," said Dr K Sudhakar. Flight services from UK to India have been suspended till December 31 over spread of new strain of coronavirus in London and England.

Legendary Indian classical musician and Padma Vibhushan awardee Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan passed away in his Mumbai residence on January 17. Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the 'Burn and Plastic Surgery' block at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi on January 18. “It is a matter of joy for AIIMS family as a golden chapter has been added to its development. An exclusive state of the art department for burns and plastic surgery has been added. All facilities related to burns and plastic surgery will be available here,” said Dr Harsh Vardhan. He added, “Nearly 70 lakh people across the country are victim of burns per year. Out of these, nearly 1.4 lakh people succumb to death. Public & Private schools for Class 10 and 12 reopened in the national capital after 10 months. Educational institutions were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a long break, students reached their respective schools for practical lessons, counseling and doubt-clearing sessions. The move comes ahead of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board examination scheduled to begin in May. Schools were seen following Covid-19 protocols and social distancing norms. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, visited Kautilya Government Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Chirag Enclave to inspect how the school had prepared for the return of students and whether mandatory Covid-19 guidelines were being followed. “The Covid-19 pandemic had been a tough time for students and people around the world.
