Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on January 05 said that in view of new COVID-19 strain, the number of flights to UK from India have been reduced to 50 per cent. "We took a decision on limited resumption of civil aviation traffic between India and United Kingdom based on an assessment of the available facts. We decided that RTPCR test which was done 72 hours ahead of travelling was not enough. So, we made it compulsory to test again on arrival. We will review the situation if any steps have to be taken. The total number of flights to UK reduced from 60 a week to 30, which is 50 per cent," said Hardeep Singh Puri.
In view of new strain of coronavirus in United Kingdom, Karnataka Health Minister, Dr K Sudhakar requested people to undergo RT-PCR test. "We request people who have returned from abroad in the last 14 days especially from the countries including United Kingdom, Netherlands and Denmark to undergo RT-PCR test, in view of the new strain of coronavirus. We have understood that this virus can spread quickly and this property is highly contagious. We need to take utmost precautionary measures," said Dr K Sudhakar. Flight services from UK to India have been suspended till December 31 over spread of new strain of coronavirus in London and England.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on December 01 said that the labs allotted by the Centre Government are taking more than 24 hours in providing reports. Replying on increasing RTPCR test to 60,000 till November 30th, he said Centre told Delhi govt to provide more labs and if labs given to Delhi govt with 24 result assurance then the RTPCR test can be increased.
Legendary Indian classical musician and Padma Vibhushan awardee Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan passed away in his Mumbai residence on January 17. The celebrated musician was an Indian classical musician in the Hindustani classical music tradition, belonging to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. He was laid to rest in Mumbai with full state honours. He was a recipient of several accolades including the Padma Shri in 1991, followed by Padma Bhushan in 2006 and Padma Vibhushan in 2018. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the legendary musician's demise and extended condolences to his family and admirers. In a tweet, the Prime Minister showered praise on Ustad Mustafa Khan, saying that he was a stalwart of creativity whose works endeared him to people across generations. BJP MLA Ram Kadam lodged a complaint against the makers of web series 'Tandav' at Ghatkopar police station in Mumbai for allegedly insulting Hindu gods. Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the 'Burn and Plastic Surgery' block at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi on January 18. “It is a matter of joy for AIIMS family as a golden chapter has been added to its development. An exclusive state of the art department for burns and plastic surgery has been added. All facilities related to burns and plastic surgery will be available here,” said Dr Harsh Vardhan. He added, “Nearly 70 lakh people across the country are victim of burns per year. Out of these, nearly 1.4 lakh people succumb to death. Roughly, every four minutes, one person dies due to burns.” Dr Harsh Vardhan also congratulated AIIMS Director, Dr Randeep Guleria and Burn and Plastic Surgery Block Head, Maneesh Singhal for their efforts. Public & Private schools for Class 10 and 12 reopened in the national capital after 10 months. Educational institutions were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a long break, students reached their respective schools for practical lessons, counseling and doubt-clearing sessions. The move comes ahead of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board examination scheduled to begin in May. Schools were seen following Covid-19 protocols and social distancing norms. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, visited Kautilya Government Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Chirag Enclave to inspect how the school had prepared for the return of students and whether mandatory Covid-19 guidelines were being followed. “The Covid-19 pandemic had been a tough time for students and people around the world. Classes for students of 10th and 12th have restarted so that they can get some assistance ahead of upcoming board examination,” Sisodia said. Watch the full video for more.

Schools in Rajasthan' Jaipur reopened for the students of classes 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th on January 18. The schools followed COVID-19 guidelines such as social distancing and masks. Students and teachers at Mahatma Gandhi Government School were allowed entry only after a thermal screening. All educational institutions were forced to shut down due to coronavirus pandemic.
Several passengers were injured after a bus overturned in Alwar due to poor visibility amid dense fog. Volvo bus lost balance and the incident occurred at the Delhi-Jaipur Highway on January 17. Police arrived at the spot of the accident.

A diamond merchant from Gujarat's Surat has made a contribution of Rs 11 crore for the construction of the Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya. The diamond trader, Govind Dholakiya, belongs to the family of farmers. He studied till 7th standard and later started working in the diamond Industry.
