World trusts Indian economy, record FDI during pandemic proof of that: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a keynote address at ASSOCHAM Foundation Week 2020 on December 19 said that India received a record amount of FDI during COVID pandemic.
PM Modi said, "The world has confidence in the Indian economy.
During the coronavirus pandemic when the world is distraught over channelling investments, we have received a record amount of FDI.
We have to increase our domestic investments in order to sustain this confidence."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a webinar programme on budget allocation for Department of Financial Services where he focused on encouraging private enterprises. He said, "There is still great scope for the banking and insurance sectors in our economy. Keeping this in mind, we have taken many steps in this Budget - be it our decision to privatise two PSBs, raising FDI limit to 74% in insurance or our decision to bring LIC IPO. Our effort is to encourage private enterprises wherever possible. However, the country needs effective participation of the public sector in banking and insurance."
While emphasising on the need for more FDI (Foreign Direct Investment), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 08 in Rajya Sabha cautioned the nation regarding a new form of FDI which he referred to as "foreign destructive ideology". "The nation is making progress and we are talking about FDI but I see that a new FDI has come to the fore. We have to protect the nation from this new FDI. We need Foreign Direct Investment but the new FDI is 'Foreign Destructive Ideology', we have to protect ourselves from it," PM Modi in an apparent reference to international celebrities expressing support for farmers' protest.
While addressing at the Aero India Show in Bengaluru on February 03, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "The government of India has enhanced FDI in Defence Sector upto 74% through the Automatic Route and 100% through the government route, which would act as a catalyst for foreign players to invest in India." "I am very happy that HAL has got the orders for development of 83 new indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) - Tejas MK1A from Indian Air Force (IAF) valued at more than Rs 48,000 crores, it is probably the biggest 'Make in India' Defence contract till date," he added.

Sweden envoy Klas Molin spoke on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between European Union and India. Molin said FTA will be negotiated at an aggregate level as per the mechanism set up during the last summit. “I know there are high talks going on about investment and trade. There is a special mechanism set up during the last summit between India and the EU. So, agreements on this will be negotiated at an aggregate level. Bilaterally a lot is happening as Swedish companies are employing heavily. Swedish companies are employing lots of people, creating jobs and growth,” he said.
