Chillai Kalan music festival brings Army and locals closer in JandK's Shopian
Chilai Kalan music festival was organised by the Indian Army at the Batpora Sports Stadium in the Shopian district of South Kashmir.
Aim of the music festival was to promote Kashmiri culture, handicraft and cuisine.The event witnessed crowd turnout of over 3,000 locals from Pulwama, Budgam and Shopian.
Several local artists charmed the audience with their melodious and energetic performances, which compelled the locals to get on their feet and dance.One of the visitors said, "Around 2,000 - 3,000 people have come here from all walks of life.
Everyone is happy as a good relationship is being established with army personnel as Shopian already holds a bad reputation for having militancy issues.
Therefore I think, the program was a good initiative." GOC Victor Force, Major General Rashim Bali said, "As you can see the audience turnout here, it straight away shows that there are no differences, which Pakistan constantly tries to create.
If we keep on going like this than our expectations from 'peace' will be attained soon."
Terrorists attacked a police party in Baghat Barzulla area of district Srinagar on Feb 19. In this terror incident, 2 policemen got injured. They have been shifted to a hospital for treatment. Three terrorists and a policeman were killed in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam and Shopian. In Shopian district, officials informed that three militants were killed by security forces. Kashmir Zone Police said arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. In another encounter in J&K’s Budgam, a policeman lost his life in the gunbattle. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Zanigam village in Budgam. The search operation was launched following information about the presence of militants in the area. Search operation turned into encounter after militants opened fire at security forces. With an aim to strengthen and to connect with the next generation of Kashmir, Indian Army organised 'A Day with Company Commander' in Baramulla. During the event, children of the surrounding areas got an opportunity to visit the Army Camp and experience the life of army personnel. Games were also organised for children for their entertainment. The children wholeheartedly participated in all the events with great enthusiasm and vigour. Children enjoyed the event and expressed gratitude to Army for conducting such an event. The aim of this outreach program is to make relationship with people and children of Kashmir valley. The event was organised by 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR). Indian Army frequently organises such events to stop youths to indulge in anti-social activities and to motivate them to join Army. Free medicines were also distributed during the event.
Ceasefire along Line of Control won't affect counter-terrorist operations, assured Northern Command, GOC-in-C, Lieutenant General YK Joshi on February 23 while addressing the Gallantry awards ceremony in Udhampur. Strategic Srinagar-Leh highway opened by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) after over 58 days. The highway was closed due to the thick layer of snow. Snow clearance of Zojila Pass was a big challenge owing to snow accumulation of 30-40 feet, threats of avalanches and inclement weather conditions. Inspite of all odds, the snow clearance operations had been conducted and completed by BRO. This road is important from the strategic point of view, being the only route between Kashmir and Ladakh. The route is a lifeline for the survival and economic development of people of Ladakh and for the security forces.
The Indian Air Force carried out a long range precision strike against a practice target to mark the second anniversary of the Balakot Operations. The strike was carried out by members of the same squadron who carried out the actual operations inside Pakistan in response to the Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria also flew a multi aircraft sortie with the units to commemorate the occasion along with the squadron pilots. 'Balakot Air Strike', was the first aerial assault carried out by India in Pakistan after the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Balakot Air Strike was carried out as a reply to Pulwama attack that claimed lives of 40 CRPF officials. Second anniversary of the Balakot Operations was marked on February 26.
Some media reports say that India and Pakistan may upgrade their diplomatic ties after years of freeze in dialogue between both countries in the aftermath of the Pulwama and Uri terror attacks. Sources say diplomatic ties between the neighbours are 'taking new shape'.

An improvised explosive device (IED) was reportedly found at a railway crossing in Jammu and Kashmir. The bomb was reportedly recovered from Kenihama Nowgam railway crossing. Bomb squad personnel were seen carrying the alleged IED with a contraption before it was neutralised in a controlled explosion. Traffic was later allowed to resume at the crossing. Around a week earlier, security forces had busted another terror plot on the anniversary of the Pulwama attack. Watch the full video for more.
