As second phase of vaccination of COVID-19 is underway in India, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal took the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at Tirath Ram Shah Hospital. Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel also received the first dose on March 04 in Delhi.
According to the Health Ministry, total of 1,01,88,007 beneficiaries have been vaccinated in India for COVID-19 so far. India reported 13,193 new COVID-19 cases and 10,896 discharges on February 19. With new infections, the COVID tally of the country stood at 1,09,63,394 which includes 1,39,542 active cases. 1,06,67,741 patients have been discharged across the country. With 97 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll rose to 1,56,111.
"98,46,523 beneficiaries have been vaccinated till 6pm on February 18," informs Union Health Ministry Joint Secretary Mandeep Singh Bhandari. Of the total, over 66 lakh healthcare workers have been given the vaccine shot. "62,34,635 healthcare workers have been given the first dose while 4,64,932 healthcare workers have been given the second dose. Vaccination drive for frontline workers which started from February 02 has so far vaccinated 31,46,956 beneficiaries," informed Joint Secretary Mandeep Singh Bhandari. Health Ministry further informed that in the last 24 hours, two new events of hospitalisation have been reported in West Bengal, of which one case of convulsions while the second case is of anaphylaxis. "Condition of both patients is stable," Ministry added.
Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine, 'COVAXIN' has demonstrated an interim vaccine efficacy of 80.6% in its Phase 3 clinical trial. "Today is an important day for us, country and Indian science. COVAXIN has demonstrated an interim vaccine efficacy of around 80.6% in its Phase 3 clinical trial. The trials involved 25,800 subjects, the largest ever conducted in India, in partnership with ICMR," Bharat Biotech chairman Dr Krishna Ella.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a Covid shot this morning at Delhi's AIIMS hospital, becoming the first beneficiary in the second phase of nationwide vaccination against the coronavirus. PM Modi took a dose of the home-grown Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech and the Indian Council of Medical Research.
