‘Green corridor created for fast movement of Oxygen Express Trains’: Piyush Goyal
Indian Railways is all set to run 'Oxygen Express' trains over the next few days.
The trains will transport liquid medical oxygen and oxygen cylinders across the country.
A green corridor is being created for fast movement of Oxygen Express trains.
Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said, “Except for nine sectors, supply of oxygen for industrial purposes by manufacturers and suppliers will be prohibited from April 22 as a temporary measure.
This has been done to ensure adequate supply of oxygen to hospitals.” He also said that a green corridor is being created for fast movement of Oxygen Express Trains to facilities smooth transport of oxygen to states amid Covid cases surge.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur urged central government to provide 5000 D-type and 3000 B-type oxygen cylinders. "There is no shortage of oxygen in the state but we need empty cylinders. I have spoken to Union Ministers Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Piyush Goyal today and requested them to provide us 5000 D-type and 3000 B-type cylinders," said CM Thakur.
Ministry of Home Affairs informed that India's medical oxygen production has increased from 7,259 metric ton to 9,103 metric ton. "Production of medical oxygen has increased and on 24 April, 9,103 metric ton oxygen was produced. It is commendable since the oxygen production capacity was only 7,259," said Additional Secretary Piyush Goyal during a press conference on April 26. Goyal also highlighted the various measures undertaken to ensure safe transportation of oxygen tankers. He said, "India is ordering oxygen tankers from abroad on a purchase or hiring basis. The transportation of oxygen tankers is a major challenge. Using real-time tracking, we are monitoring the movement of oxygen tankers."

Another Oxygen Express carrying liquid medical oxygen containers to reach Delhi amid oxygen crisis in the national capital. So far it is the heaviest Oxygen Express as it carries 225 MT of liquid oxygen.
