State of the Union: Farmers' protests and the defence of democracy
Farmers' protests across Europe sparked a surge in popularity of right-wing populist parties and have made agricultural policy one of the main topics of the upcoming European election campaign.
Addressing a public rally in Kashi, Prime Minister Modi called the PM-Kisan scheme a testament to the BJP government's honest delivery, highlighting how ₹3.75 lakh crore was directly transferred to farmers without any cuts or commissions. He accused Congress and Samajwadi Party of misleading farmers ahead of the 2019 elections. PM Modi also launched the ₹24,000 crore Dhan-Dhaanya Yojana, promising special focus on backward districts.
