Erika Shields was the 24th Chief of Police for the City of Atlanta, Georgia. Then-Mayor of Atlanta Kasim Reed announced on December 1, 2016, that he had chosen Shields to succeed then-Police Chief George N. Turner, on December 28, 2016, when Turner retired. On June 13, 2020, Shields resigned after Atlanta police fatally shot a black man, 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks.
