Sunday, 8 October 2023 India's food safety regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and the Tea Board have held a meeting to address concerns about the quality and safety of tea. The FSSAI CEO emphasized the responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure tea safety and highlighted regulations regarding extraneous matter, harmful substances, and pesticide limits. The Tea Board will work with FSSAI to create awareness campaigns and educate farmers and workers on compliance and quality control measures. India is the fourth-largest tea exporter but is facing challenges such as rising costs and declining exports.
