The Indian rupee appreciated by 12 paise to settle at 83.15 against the US dollar on Friday, supported by a weak dollar and positive equity market sentiment. However, the rupee remained under pressure due to rising crude oil prices driven by geopolitical tensions and outflow of foreign funds. The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against six major currencies, was trading lower. The domestic equity market saw gains, with the Sensex rising by 241.86 points and the Nifty soaring by 94.35 points.
