Nottingham attacks victim a 'hero', say family - as killer's manslaughter plea accepted
Tuesday, 23 January 2024 The family of a student stabbed to death in Nottingham say she was a "hero" who tried to save the life of her friend, who also died in the same attack.
Family and friends of the three people who were killed by Valdo Calocane in Nottingham last year have arrived at court.
Calocane - who stabbed students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, and caretaker Ian Coates - pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility....
The parents of Grace O’Malley-Kumar have blamed “failings” in the system for a series of stabbing attacks, including a sword attack in Hainault on Tuesday and a school stabbing in Sheffield on Wednesday. Grace’s father, Dr Sanjoy Kumar, said “positive change is so long overdue” after a 14-year-old boy was killed in Hainault and three teenage boys were admitted to hospital in Sheffield following the attacks.
