Mystery of US warship's final resting place solved... by accident
Wednesday, 13 November 2024 An American warship that was sunk by Japanese dive bombers during the Second World War has finally been found, more than 80 years later.
An explosion at Japan’s Kadena Air Base in Okinawa injured four Japanese Self-Defense Force (SDF) personnel during WWII ordnance disposal on Monday. The blast occurred inside the U.S.-controlled base, though no American personnel were hurt. The injuries are not life-threatening. Japan’s 15th Brigade was handling unexploded ammunition at the time. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as investigations continue. Kadena, the largest U.S. airbase in the Asia-Pacific, plays a key strategic role near Taiwan.
