Israel has gone 'beyond just self-defence' with 'intolerable' attacks in Gaza, says minister
Wednesday, 21 May 2025 Israel has gone "beyond just self-defence" as an "intolerable" military offensive continues in Gaza, Environment Secretary Steve Reed has told Sky News.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sharply rebuked the UK, France, and Canada after their joint condemnation of Israel’s military offensive in Gaza. Accusing them of “rewarding Hamas’s genocidal attack,” Netanyahu defended Israel’s war as a fight for survival and civilization. He...
In a chilling accusation, the Director of Al-Shifa Hospital claims that Israel is preparing a major massacre in Gaza and has begun by targeting journalists to silence the truth. Al Jazeera reporters Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qraiqea, along with three cameramen, were killed in a strike near the hospital. Al Jazeera has called it a "targeted assassination" and a direct attack on press freedom. The IDF claims the journalists were affiliated with Hamas but has provided no credible evidence. With international outrage growing and journalists under fire, is this the beginning of a blackout before a bloodbath?

Hamas has condemned what it calls a “targeted assassination” of five Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza, after an Israeli strike hit a tent for reporters outside Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital. Among the dead is veteran correspondent Anas al-Sharif, along with journalist Mohammed Qreiqeh, cameramen Ibrahim Zaher and Moamen Aliwa, and assistant photojournalist Mohammed Noufal. Al Jazeera accused Israel of deliberately attacking the press, calling it another blatant assault on press freedom.
The Committee to Protect Journalists expressed outrage, demanding accountability. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed targeting Sharif, alleging he led a Hamas terrorist cell. The killings have sparked global condemnation, with media rights groups warning that attacks on journalists are eroding international protections for the press in conflict zones. Hamas vowed to honor the “martyrs” and accused Israel of silencing voices that document its actions in Gaza. The incident further escalates tensions amid the ongoing war.

Environment Secretary Steve Reed has warned the nationalisation would cost £100 billion and slow down efforts to cut pollution. Mr Reed said it was not the answer, adding: “It would involve years of legal wrangles and during that that time, there would be no investments into upgrading our sewage and water pipes.''
