Before casting Nargis Fakhri in Rockstar, Imtiaz Ali had approached Diana Penty for Ranbir Kapoor's Rockstar, but dropped her after a few workshops. The filmmaker later suggested her name for Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone-starrer Cocktail, which marked her acting debut.
