Netanyahu considers full Gaza takeover, Israeli media says, as more Palestinians die of hunger
Tuesday, 5 August 2025 () Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu favours a complete military takeover of Gaza for the first time in two decades, media reported, and was to meet senior security officials on Tuesday to finalize a new strategy in the 22-month war.
Tensions in Gaza reached a breaking point after an Israeli airstrike struck an apartment in the Al-Maqousi Towers in northwest Gaza, leaving multiple civilians dead and many others severely injured. As sirens echoed through the area, chaos and devastation unfolded yet again. The strike comes amid rising pressure on Israeli leadership from within its own ranks.
Over 600 retired Israeli security officials, including former heads of intelligence, have written a joint letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, urging him to intervene and pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza. The officials claim Hamas no longer poses a strategic threat and that continued warfare is only prolonging suffering. Despite indirect ceasefire talks stalling, Netanyahu is reportedly pushing to intensify military operations. The internal dissent reflects a growing concern that Netanyahu’s decisions are politically motivated, risking further bloodshed and regional instability.

Tensions are rising in Tijuana as protesters gathered outside the Mexican Foreign Affairs Ministry demanding the government immediately sever diplomatic relations with Israel over its actions in Gaza. Demonstrators held signs and chanted slogans denouncing what they described as “genocide” against the Palestinian people. One protester, Enrique Ochoa, said the conflict could be summed up in one word: “genocide.” The protest reflects growing outrage in Latin America over Israel’s military actions and the rising civilian death toll in Gaza.
The gathering in Tijuana adds to international pressure on Mexico to take a firmer stance. While Mexico has expressed concern over the violence, it has stopped short of condemning Israel outright or taking diplomatic action. The demands of the protestors echo similar calls in global capitals as pro-Palestinian movements grow louder. No official response from the Mexican government has been issued at the time of this report.
