Revered Buddhist leaders of Sri Lanka welcome creation of Ladakh as Union Territory
Friday, 9 August 2019 Two of the most revered Buddhist religious leaders of Sri Lanka have welcomed India's move to carve out Buddhist-majority Ladakh as a Union Territory. The Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters of the Siyam Nikaya said that Ladakh's new status would strengthen religious, political and cultural relations between Sri Lanka and India.
Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) organised a 'thanksgiving' after scrapping of Article 370. Organised in Leh, the 'thanksgiving' was to celebrate Ladakh becoming a Union Territory. People from different villages participated in the celebration.
